As one of the top selling Xbox video games in the US, the Halo 3 ODST acclaimed huge popularity and stood right on the top of the charts for a significant amount of time. The game features a typical scenario in a hypothetical African city of New Mombassa. The city is destroyed and all the inhabitants either killed or missing. The game features a Master Chief who has various exceptional powers but is not under the control of the players. The players assume the role of some exceptional UN soldiers who are known as ODST or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. These are United Nations Elite team of Space Command soldiers and the situation is exceptional. Aliens from outer space have surged on to the city and players have to battle a huge population of these aliens who have multiple powers.
The game which was developed and released in early 2009 saw a whooping sale take place in the first few days leaving virtually no copies available off the shelf in most stores. Produced by Microsoft, there were additional supplements made and distributed to replenish the stocks but even then, demand always outstripped supply. As a significant Xbox game, the phenomenal sales were the result of public awareness and for which there were no special advertisement campaigns from the producers.
Halo 3 ODST later saw a formal promo campaign as Microsoft put up various road shows promoting the game across the length and breadth of US. The product sales jumped manifold as the campaigns picked up momentum.
Written as a full-scale story, the game has won the hearts of all Xbox users mainly because of its close alignment to the human factor who fight aliens from outer space. The producers of the game were aware of the human psychology long before they even conceived the game and accordingly penned the game with the normal human limitations in mind. If the ODST runs short of energy, there are separate energy packs that bounce the halo ODST back in action. ODST are liable to severe injuries in action, as human soldiers do not have multi-functional features. They cannot handle two weapons at the same time. They are unlike the aliens not capable of jumping great heights, surviving precipitous falls or even running at crazy speeds. However, should there be a medical need for the human soldiers, there is an abundance of medical packs strewn around the area of war and the soldier will have to take a medical pack to bounce him back to action. If he is unable to pick up a pack since he is always in the core action area, his energy reduces and subsequently he dies. The game pauses at this point and the scorecard is displayed. The game can be resumed once again from this point or can be started off all over again.
Halo 3 ODST received an overwhelming response in the US ever since its launch in just a matter of a few months since it was announced.
