Halo Wars

Gaming – a new concept in modern day technology is an industry by itself. This industry employs thousands of professionals in the field of animation, electronics, acoustics, imaging, and a host of other faculties that have not only a great market but also good clientele. Sales and revenues are directly co-related to the product mix and the mood of the customer is entirely based on reality life like situations. The earlier generations were preoccupied with war like games that were limited to a few mouse and keypad movements and were not all that synchronized. Yet in those days, the rules were written differently. As gaming evolved over the past few years, there have been more and more power and technology that have been freely added to the games. ODST or the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper is the creation of professional whiz kids who know the pulse of the market well in advance. These terms by themselves look as if directly picked up from science fictions written and created to simulate alien invasion and the aftermath that follows.

War games are not new today. Even before Halo could come in, there were limited effect war games produced by various software companies. Halo brought in a refreshing change in the gaming concept with more of life like characters that simulated the common soldier actions of today. In an earlier version of a war game, it is difficult to believe that a soldier could run endlessly through the length and breadth of the African deserts without tiring himself. The Halo 3 ODST does not feature any such insurmountable feats. The ODST like any other commoner would be liable to tiredness and can use the energy packs that come on its way. The Halo ODST is not a superman – yet it remains to be seen how he can fight the aliens to a victory. Most war games are built around the fact that there have to be aliens who are due to attack the world at one point of time or the other and there have to be fleet footed soldiers – Halo ODST in this case to fight them to extinction.

It remains to be seen what the scenario would have been had the concept of the Halo 3 ODST been different altogether with no wars, no aliens and no New Mombassa in Africa. Would there have been a similar public response to another story howsoever well written and promoted by the producers? This remains a big question for Bungie and Microsoft. Halo war video games are made around the concept of death, fighting and success. Armory, vehicles, ammunition, tunnels and trenches, flash of fire, war accessories and clothing and so many other things go along with a war game. These things are to be worked out to the last detail and there can be no denying the fact that creation of these scenarios requires a tremendous amount of meticulous planning and technology. That is why Halo 3 ODST has been a runaway success so far and promises to live up to the expectations of the masses.
